Vehicle Categories Requiring Code 95 #

    • D1: Vehicles designed and constructed for the carriage of no more than 16 passengers in addition to the driver, with a maximum length not exceeding 8 meters, with a trailer of up to 750 kg.
    • D1E: Combination of a D1 vehicle and a trailer exceeding 750 kg, provided the maximum mass of the combination does not exceed 12,000 kg.
    • D: Vehicles designed and constructed for the carriage of more than 8 passengers in addition to the driver, with a trailer of up to 750 kg.
    • DE: Combination of a D vehicle and a trailer exceeding 750 kg.

Exemptions #

There are specific exemptions where Code 95 is not required, even if you are driving vehicles within the above categories. These include:

  • Vehicles with a maximum authorized speed not exceeding 45 km/h.
  • Vehicles used by or under the control of the armed forces, civil defense, fire service, and forces responsible for maintaining public order.
  • Vehicles undergoing road tests for technical development, repair, or maintenance purposes, or of new or rebuilt vehicles not yet put into service.
  • Vehicles used in states of emergency or assigned to rescue missions.
  • Vehicles used for driving instruction for any person wishing to obtain a driving license or a Certificate of Professional Competence (Code 95).
  • Vehicles used for non-commercial carriage of passengers or goods.
  • Vehicles carrying material or equipment to be used by the driver in the course of his or her work, provided that driving the vehicle is not the driver’s primary activity.

How to Obtain Code 95 in Latvia #

To obtain Code 95 in Latvia, drivers must complete an initial qualification course and pass an exam. The initial qualification course covers topics such as:

  • Advanced vehicle handling and fuel-efficient driving techniques.
  • Load safety and security.
  • Regulations concerning the transport sector.
  • First aid and emergency procedures.
