Mont Blanc (11.6 km) tunnel that links the A40 on the French side and the A5 on the Italian side.


Tunnel traffic rules. All basic requirements are reflected on the paper flyer, which is issued before entering the tunnel and consists of the following points:

  • the speed range in the tunnel is from 50 to 70 km per hour;
  • the distance between moving vehicles must be at least 150 m, which is equal to the distance of blue remote beacons along the side of the tunnel;
  • if a car stops in front of you, you must stop your vehicle at least 100 m from it;
  • it is forbidden to enter the tunnel on faulty cars if necessary, evacuation will be very expensive for you;
  • unreasonable stops of vehicles are prohibited;
  • for timely receipt of warning information, inside the tunnel, it is necessary to tune in to the wave of the service radio station 103.3 or 107.7 FM.
  • The Mont Blanc tunnel is open frequently, but not around the clock.
  • In its work on both sides of the entrance at night there are technological breaks lasting from 30 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • And on some days at night from 22.30 to 6.00 the tunnel does not work.

The Great Saint Bernard tunnel connects Italy and Switzerland divided by the Alps. The length of the Great Saint Bernard tunnel is 5798 m. The E27 motorway passes through the tunnel, which can be reached in Italy via Turin or Milan.

The Munt la Schera Tunnel is a single lane car tunnel located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It connects the Engadine Valley with Lago di Livigno via Munt la Chera. Completed in 1965, the tunnel is 3394 meters long.

The tunnel was built to transport construction materials for the construction of the Punt dal Gall dam. It was opened for public use in 1968 but is still owned and operated by the hydropower company Engadiner Kraftwerke AG. Reverse movement is organized in the tunnel with a change frequency every 15 minutes. (In winter, on Saturdays, a different driving mode is used with variable traffic. The tunnel is open to vehicles no more than 3.6 meters high and 2.5 meters wide.
